Accelerated Technology Announces E-SIM Prototyping Technology Extended to Nucleus Applications

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2002--Accelerated Technology, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics (Nasdaq:MENT), today announced the complete integration of the Nucleus(TM) Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) with the E-SIM prototyping tool which Mentor introduced in June 2002 ("Accelerated Technology® Welcomes Simulation and Testing Technology from Innoveda®").

Nucleus developers can now take advantage of the benefits of E-SIM in their embedded applications.

The integration of the E-SIM product with the Accelerated Technology Nucleus RTOS results in the premier embedded prototyping environment. A unique simulation and testing environment for embedded software, E-SIM provides all of the benefits of prototyping tools including the ability to develop embedded applications before the target hardware is available and development with the host's native tools. In addition, E-SIM provides powerful features not found in other prototyping tools. For example, E-SIM allows for virtual prototypes of peripheral controllers, such as a Bluetooth host controller, to be plugged in. This capability lets E-SIM model the behavior of peripheral components and simulate input/output (I/O).

E-SIM also includes support for a powerful scripting feature. Utilizing this feature, developers can record and replay tests as well as easily create automated regression tests. E-SIM also makes it possible to prototype the user interface of devices such as cell phones. Developers can build a graphical user interface (GUI) that models the man-machine interface of a product. This allows problems in the interface to be detected much earlier than is possible when waiting for a hardware prototype to debug such problems.

With the integration of Nucleus and E-SIM, Nucleus developers can benefit from the power of E-SIM. It also provides the ability to perform OS tracing, allowing developers to monitor the interactions between Nucleus and their applications. Nucleus applications executing within the E-SIM environment can be compiled, executed, tested and debugged on a Windows or UNIX workstation. This permits developers to leverage workstation development tools including compilers, profilers, coverage tools, debuggers and more.

Accelerated Technology will provide a demonstration of the Nucleus integration with E-SIM at the Embedded Systems Conference, booth #1101. There will be a presentation on the use of prototyping in embedded systems at the booth as well.

"Prototyping is proving to be one of the most economical steps a company can take to accelerate time to market. The integration of E-SIM is exciting in that it makes one of the world's most powerful prototyping tools available to the masses that have adopted the Nucleus RTOS," said Robert Day, director of marketing for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics.

Pricing and Availability

E-SIM is available now through Accelerated Technology. Licenses for E-SIM start at U.S. $4,995 per seat. For more information, please contact us at 800/468-6853.
